MATTHEW SUTTON

A lifetime of art, fashion, and a childhood love of Barbie dolls all came together in the mid 90s when I discovered the world of fashion doll artistry. It became the perfect outlet for my creativity, and has brought me much happiness. I have been honored to be a part of each National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention's Charity Live Auction of OOAK dolls. Over the years, my dolls have helped to raise over $50,000 for the various charities supported by the conventions. It is truly my way of giving back to a community that has given me so much. In 2009 I was thrilled to be a part of Barbie's 50th Anniversary by designing one of the dolls in the "Tribute" NBDCC gift set, alongside the wonderful folks at Mattel and the legendary Carol Spencer. 2011, I was honored to be part of another historic event--Barbie doll and Ken doll's 50th Anniversary together! For this celebration, I was able to design the convention giftset dolls with my partner (and super talented doll artist and fan favorite) Matt Trujillo! It's been amazing to be part of two such huge events in the world of Barbie. My creations are inspired by the Golden Age of couture, featuring hand made gowns in beautiful fabrics, intricate hand made Swarovski crystal jewelry, and restyled hair and delicate hand painted faces. They bring me so much happiness and pride---so it is truly an honor to be part of the charity event for this convention! www.mattsutton.com

"The Petals of a Rose" OOAK by Matthew Sutton Soft and delicate, warm and feminin the colors of dawn show upon the roses as they open with the morning sun. The world awakens in these magical hours... "The Petals of a Rose" is a romantic awakening! It all begins with petal pink silk, over which floats layers..or petals... of silver sequins and blush pink netting to create a full romantic mermaid skirt. The body of the gown is more of the same pink silk layered with silver sequins and caged within blush netting, culminating at the bust line with pink chiffon dimensional petals. Accenting the gown are sashes made of blush French silk one at the beginning of the mermaid skirt which is punctuated with an exaggerated bow. The second wraps around her bodice. Both are further adorned with clusters of Swarovski crystal brooches, sparkling like the morning dew. The brooches are paired with Swarovski crystal stud earrings. A simple tiny pink ribbon choker and pink pumps complete her softly romantic fashion statement. "The Petals of a Rose" has received a complete facial repaint and restyled hair. A former "Madmen" Silkstone, her fiery tresses have been restyled into a sleek French twist and accented with pink paper milliner flowers. Her face now delights in a palette of soft pastel colors Eye shadows in tones of gold and pink and crisp black lashes frame her sea blue eyes. Soft rosy blush warms her cheeks. The final touch a soft lip in kissable petal pink! Will the morning reveal your dreams of love? "The Petals of a Rose' is hand painted and restyled in hand made OOAK gown and accessories, all designed and created by Matthew Sutton. Doll will come in box signed and dated by the artist, and includes a doll stand.
